10 Oniscus asellus "B.C. Maple"

They take some time to establish in a vivarium and serve as cleaners to maintain cleanliness, while also providing a natural source of calcium. They originate from Canada and have flat orange bodies. While they grow quite large as adults, the younger ones are a food source for amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles. These isopods prefer cooler temperatures and occasional misting, but they don’t thrive in overly wet conditions. We create a moderate moisture gradient in their enclosure, with one side featuring wet NZ sphagnum moss, the middle being moist and mostly covered with leaf litter and excess bark, and the opposite side completely dry with only leaf litter. This setup allows the isopods to osmoregulate and maintain homeostasis.
